Greetings All,
Id like to remove my personal property (my car) from the jurisdiction of NCDOT with surrendering my DL and license plates in exchange for tags that I plan to make myself. Anyone familiar with this process and who may point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
lance

Greetings All,

Thanks,
lance Lance: I know you don't want to hear this, but please think very, very carefully about doing this. Let me tell you this, are you financially well off that if you run over a little kid you can meet your financial responsibility? How about an adult in his prime earning years? If you object to the jurisdiction of the State, you can give them notice and have them be careful when dealing with you without having to forgo the benefit of financial responsibility. In the alternative, you can remove your property from the state and then secure a bond to cover in case you seriously injure someone. I can share with you the process I have previously followed, but had a close call when a pedestrian carelessly crossed my path and was a horrible nightmare to defend. Harry

Ive been really considering it for some time now, Harry. Im still on the fence about it...but I just dont want to keep having to pay property taxes on my property. I dont know if i want to keep feeding this monster. Please do share the process with me that you followed previously. Thanks for your reply. As far as my not wanting to hear what you said, I do appreciate raw truth and view from different degrees of situations...so I do appreciate you for that.

Make a certified copy of the Certificate of Title and send it with a letter to the motor vehicle department demanding the vehicle's Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO).
In your letter it may go something like this for example:
Dear Motor Vehicle Commissioner (or whatever it is called in your state):
Please find attached a certified copy of the certificate of title for the therein described chattel.
1. I have bought this particular piece of personal property with lawful money.
2. Please take notice that I am not a merchant and this property is for my personal household use and will not be used in commerce, notwithstanding the present monetary system of using Federal Reserve notes for currency.
3. I am not interested in having the state keep my property in their registry therefore please return the Manufacturer's Statement of Origin to me at the following address: 123 Main Street. Anytown, My State.
Thank you for your kind attention and assistance. If you have any questions feel free to send them to the above location.
Sincerely,
H.M. Smith
Wait for them to respond telling you what you have to do to get your MSO or a bunch of excuses why they can't give it to you.
Depending on their answer, is your next step.
